About
Hey, I'm Joseph.
I'm a self-taught software engineer from Mississippi who got serious about code through gaming communities and never looked back. What started as writing Lua scripts to customize game servers turned into building full-stack web platforms, Linux infrastructure, and desktop tooling for real clients.
I founded VersaNexus LLC to put my skills to work — since then I've shipped an e-commerce platform for a local bakery, maintained high-availability infrastructure for a gaming community, and built internal tooling that actually gets used. I care about the whole stack, not just one slice of it.
Right now I'm looking for a full-time engineering role where I can go deep on hard problems, work with a team that takes quality seriously, and keep building things people rely on.

How I work
▸
Build for real people
Software that doesn't get used isn't software — it's a file on a server. Every project I take on starts with understanding who's going to use it and what actually makes their life easier.
▸
Own the whole stack
I'm not a frontend dev who doesn't touch the backend, or a systems guy who avoids the UI. I care about how everything connects, because the seams are usually where things break.
▸
Maintainability over cleverness
The smartest code is the code the next developer can read at 2am and immediately understand. I favor clear structure, honest naming, and boring solutions to interesting problems.
▸
Ship, then improve
Waiting for perfect is how projects die. I'd rather put something real in front of users, learn from it, and iterate than spend six months building in a vacuum.
How I got here
2019
First lines of code
Started tinkering with Lua to mod game servers — more trial and error than actual programming, but the bug bit hard.
2020
Ragnarök Gaming
Took ownership of a gaming community and started building real infrastructure around it. Node.js, Linux, Socket.IO — learned by breaking things constantly.
2021
Base Camp Coding Academy
Joined an intensive full-stack engineering program in Mississippi to formalize what I'd been self-teaching. Built multiple projects from concept to deployment.
2022
Founded VersaNexus LLC
Turned my skills into a business. Started taking on client work — web platforms, infrastructure hosting, and custom tooling for small businesses.
2024
mommabris.com
Designed and shipped a full e-commerce platform for a local Mississippi bakery. Live ordering system, menu management, custom image API — built entirely from scratch.
2025
capttech.dev
Rebranded my personal presence and started focusing on landing a full-time software engineering role. That's this site.
My LLC
VersaNexus LLC
The business entity behind my freelance work. I've used it to ship client projects, host infrastructure, and run Ragnarök Gaming. Founding it taught me more about software delivery and client communication than any course could — scope, timelines, real users, real consequences.
Outside the editor
Gaming
FPS and strategy games — the communities around them as much as the games themselves.
Server infrastructure
I genuinely enjoy managing Linux systems. Automation, monitoring, the whole thing.
Open source tooling
Building small libraries that solve one problem cleanly and get out of the way.
Mississippi roots
Based in Mississippi and proud of it. Remote-first, but rooted here.
What's next
Let's build something.
I'm actively looking for a full-time engineering role. If your team ships things people care about, I'd love to talk.
